1. Technical Updates

UK team

  • Working on a series of accessibility updates. Making the charts and menus more accessible to keyboard and screen reader users. Will try to push those towards Open SDG at some point.
  • Also working on an analysis of the risk assessment for the site. Will have more to say on both the accessibility and risks by Mid June
    • Brock and others on the call would all like to hear the results from that when it comes out.
  • Working on customizable tags to the goals page. UK is looking at identifying four different proxy categories.
  • Merged updates from the English translations to the repo so that they lineup with the new indicator changes
  • SDMX updates from Lucy. There is a new version that they are working on. The new version is expected at the end of July and so Lucy is working on preparing until then and will test it out.

US team

  • Preparing a migration for hosting the production and staging site to the federalist platform. This shouldn’t impact the Open SDG project but Phil will check in with Brock to make sure there is a smooth transition.
    • This may change a few things about changing the workflow and Phil will touch base with Kali about this before it happens.
  • Kali is working on the data calls right now but has noticed that with the switch to the new platforms, there have been some complaints from the data providers.
    • These are mostly small missteps but Kali will communicate things that she finds with the team as they come up. Has gone through 80 pull requests.
    • First time we have had data providers put their data in a combined platform so it could just be growing pains. Small issues from the graphs not looking right to bigger input issues.
    • Brock and Phil will work on having another sprint to look into these issues. Could be a wide-versus-tidy issue.
  • Kali to submit a request to the UK team. Goal 9 indicator on passenger trains and volume looks like it has some issues with the graph. Chris to run this by their subject matter experts.
  • Brock put together a video to try and explain this. Kali will review this.

CODE team

  • Brock is focusing on SDG build and has merged them with schemas and validation. Is now working on SDMX and JSON import and is working on a proof of concept with an API with Cambodia’s data.
  • The team has been working on streamlining our comms plan for the platform release to help stay on time. Will send out a follow-up email about this.

Germany team

  • Germany is waiting for the approval for the platform. They are still working on it though.
  • Germany is currently doing a bunch of proofreading and getting the platform ready.
  • Open SDG issues that need fixing:
    • The Y axis labeling does not "wrap" when it is very long
    • When a 0 is put into the file to load then it won’t work.
    • Are there any plans to include other non-numeric values?
    • For some indicators it may be helpful to only have the table and not the diagram. Is that possible? Brock seems to think so.
      • Kali - can we create some sort of toggle switch?
      • Phil - old configuration could be displayed by the type of graph. But it seems like the new configuration won’t allow for it.
    • Brock requested a case study from Germany. This could be helpful to motivate leadership. Justus seems like he is interested and Brock will send the case study.
    • Justus is leaving at the end of May and Moritz will be taking his place along with Miriam.

Country/subnational interest in cloning the NRP

  • Chris going to Kyrgyzstan next week and is preparing now
  • Rwanda event was a big success.
    • They are working on developing a French option and will also work on developing a new language.
    • Also working on developing new national indicators so that they could be shown on these sites. ONS was able to do some goal customization so they may be able to help.
  • Ghana is investigating if they should use .stat suite for the back end.
    • They may also be using the google analytics dashboards that Lucy developed.
  • Namibia representative is coming next week and will look into the platform for that visit.
