Play Testing

To gain a better understanding of the gameplay from the perspective of unfamiliar users, we contacted other groups to playtest our final game. We managed to gather feedback from group 10.

Play Testing by other groups

From the playtests we received very helpful feedback which is detailed below:

Negatives

  • Found the game quite difficult at times, especially at later levels.
  • Had some difficulties learning the camera movements (rotation in particular).
  • Camera movement is too slow.
  • The metric balancing is skewed such that the player is focused more on making money.
  • User got frustrated when the exclamation mark would disappear and decrease population happiness while they were reading another dialogue.
  • Bug found - replaying game would not work.
  • Some users were unsure what the metric icons represented.

Positives

  • Found the story interesting and engaging.
  • Enjoyed the way player actions dynamically reflected on the game world.

Play Testing for other groups

In return for the useful feedback provided, we playtested for group 10.

Feedback given to group 10

  • supply and demand system takes a while to get used to
  • Interesting take on a city-builder game, they had a food metric which the player also has to account for, less story-driven and more strategic in nature
