Tracking newly launched satellites

Getting telemetry from the newly launched satellites is very important. This information can help satellite owners, enthusiasts and scientists quickly understand satellite status. This is especially important during first several days when satellite just launched. During that time satellite might experience sudden failures caused by the launch itself. For example, just after turning on the battery on the satellite might fail and radio communication might stop. Without realtime telemetry it will be unclear what caused the failure.

r2cloud together with leosatdata supports tracking newly launched satellites.

How it works

1. New satellites will be configured at leosatdata.com by admin.

r2cloud will periodically check if new satellites available. These satellites have the following features:

• Priority - HIGH. Any other satellites will be scheduled only after HIGH priority satellites occupy the antenna.
• Temporary id - R2CLOUD ID. Used only within r2cloud network. Newly launched satellites won't have dedicated NORAD ID, which is used throughout all systems.
• Temporary id - Satnogs ID. Used for submitting data to Satnogs using SIDS integration. This is the only integration which will work for newly launched satellites.
• Temporary TLE. Normal TLE as well as NORAD ID is not available at celestrak, thus temporary pre-calculated.
• Start and end timestamps. New satellites might appear well before the actual launch, but shouldn't be auto scheduled immediately. Instead they should be scheduled after the launch.

2. r2cloud will schedule observations with the top priority.

3. r2cloud will share the observation with leosatdata.

4. If satnogs integration configured, then the data will be shared using the temporary SatnogsID.

5. Once the satellite is fully identified by celestrak and got NORAD ID, leosatdata admin will merge observations from temporarily R2CLOUD ID into NORAD ID.

How to enable

1. Configure leosatdata integration.

2. Check "New launches" and click "Save".
