Special thanks to Babs (catlover00) for writing this tutorial.
This is a tutorial showcasing various methods of finding your Bitstrips user ID.
Thanks to web archives, we are able to access screen captures of the Bitstrips website. Unfortunately, as it is only a screen capture, there are a lot of limits to what you can do (inability to use the search bar, logging in, seeing all comics, etc). Depending on how popular and/or active you were, you may have to go through rabbit holes to find your ID. Regardless of how tough that would be, it's definitely possible.
To get started with your hunt, it is suggested that you bookmark these pages, though that is optional:
- Some really old comic strips don't always follow the
[ID]_[userID]
format in their link. In that case, try checking out this Bitstrips dump. You may be able to find your strips through there. - Oftentimes, you may click on a link and it will tell you that it is unarchived. Don't worry, just keep looking through different methods. There is no reason to stress over it because all you really need is your link, not to see the page itself. Therefore if you find a comic that's yours or you locate your page but it's unarchived, just look at the link and obtain your ID from there.
- Comics that are clicked on through the error pages have different URLs compared to if they were clicked on through a profile. This may be useful if you find a comic strip that is unarchived on a profile but you know it was on the error page at some point. Make sure to search for it, because it may be archived through the error page.
