CodeCampNotX
Due to the growing concerns over Covid-19 to potential travellers around the globe we have decided it is best to make the decision now to postpone the code camp. Besides the potential health risks, there are also the practical considerations that a number of participants have already had to cancel due to travel restrictions being imposed by their institutions and the fact that things are likely to get more restrictive in the next two weeks rather than less.
Needless to say we are very disappointed and sorry for the inconvenience. But we feel it is the wisest decision at this point. Thanks for your patience and understanding
The Tenth SasView Code Camp, Will be held at Caltech in Pasadena, CA (USA) from March 18 through 24th 2020. The SasView community wishes to thank Professor Julia Kornfield for her generous support of this activity.
NOTE: We are planning a pre-Code Camp Orientation/'Bootcamp' on March 17th to cover "everything but Python." This will start by covering the concepts and usage of collaborative development such as version control, and the implementation/usage with git/github, Continuous integration, slack etc through the variety of subprojects such as tutorial writing, the SasView youtube channel, the SasView website etc, down to the code structure and layout, the command line interface and finally the "rules of engagement" for SasView. Installation of tools (e.g. git) will be tackled as necessary here. The organization of the day is meant to allow developers with various levels of experience to come in at later points during the day with everyone new to SasView getting an overview of the code layout and particular rules being used in the SasView development at the end. We are hoping this separate time focused on training and orientation will make the workshop more productive and satisfying for all.
Pasadena is part of the greater LA area, situated to the North, North-East of LA. The area is served by a number of airports but most will likely be coming through LAX. Besides renting a car for the stay (directions links to be added), Uber, regular taxis and shared ride vans are all available from LAX to Pasadena. (Does anyone have any more specific recommendations for cheapest, safest, quickest options please? )
NOTE: Pasadena is quite walkable and once on location, a car should not be necessary.
The primary hotel being used is the Howard Johnson in Pasadena located at 1599 East Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA, 91106. Phone +1 (626) 808-4500.
NOTE: If you register for the free Wyndham Rewards program, or you use your AAA membership, you should get the discount. If you cannot for some reason get the discount please let one of the contacts below know and we will work to get you the discount.
Eduroam is available on the Caltech campus as is a general visitor network. As necessary other options may be explored.
The Caltech campus is well-supplied with eateries and places for coffee. Click here for a map.
