The Projects Plan
Collaborative software development by members and to-be members has been a desirable goal for Byld.
To this end, several ideas have been proposed in the past. This wiki page contains the list of current ideas which we plan to eventually implement.
Project Hub would be a central repository of projects under Byld. These are the projects which the Byld community is collectively interested in - institute portals; utilities that are useful for academics, campus life, or Byld activities and sessions.
Some of the projects may have a senior Byld member / alum associated with the project. The mentor's role may vary -- from providing assistance and guidance when the students working on it need it, to being a BDFL -- providing design descisions and setting the scope for the project.
HackTogethers are get-togethers where we propose new problems (which would fall under the scope of Byld Projects), work on solutions, work on existing projects, and most imporatantly -- document and commit all the work done so that someone can build atop it.
End of the (academic) year celebration of any and all projects done by Byld members -- be it pet projects, hackathon projects, non-trivial course projects, and more.
It's meant to be a dry-run of the (G|RG|.*)SoC process. If you're interested in making this happen, fill out the interest form.
HackTogethers are coming to you in Winter 2019. We've begun contacting people for their projects on project hub, after we have enough projects, we'll figure out mentor-mentee matchmaking. Previous editions of the very same thing have failed, so this time around we're going to make sure that HackTogethers provide a good kickstart to collaborative software developement within the club which should then fruitfully carry over to individual projects.
If you want to work on an institute portal - you're out of luck. Insititute doesn't solicit around-the-year services for working on projects. When they need a feature, or maintenance / bugfixes -- they contact us and we float out a form. So be on lookout for such a form.
