I personally think this whole branch of the script should be skipped in this case, but I don't have time to refactor at the moment.

It seems GBIF is experiencing an outage. API is very slow, errors returned by some tests making use of GBIF API (timeout error). |

During review for b³ I came across a number of small style cases, I did an effort to fix some of these with the help of the tidyverse style guide, lintr and styler.
