Hi there and nice to meet you! 😁

I'm Ace, a full-stack developer and IT-student at university in Germany with a few years of hands-on development experience at several smaller IT-companies as well as open-source projects, one of them being Inkycal (yes, I'm the main person behind Inkycal πŸ˜‰). In the web I only use my alias "Ace", which I have been using for quite some time. Only a few people on Github know my real name. A little bit of mystery is sometimes fun ;-)

I want to use the funding for Inkycal to make it the best open-source software to create awesome E-paper dashboards with my software.
Chances are, you've probably seen these e-paper displays in a Kindle e-book reader which resemble the look of paper, but are actually very thin and low power displays. There aren't many optimised software around for e-paper displays and those that do require some know-how in coding, which not everyone has. My aim with Inkycal is to provide a software which can be used with almost zero-coding and is highly optimised to make the most of these displays as they work fundamentally different from lcd/oled.

To make this the best open-source software for e-paper displays, funding is required:
βœ… Purchasing more e-paper displays as new e-paper displays with more colours and higher update rates are released
βœ… Development of new modules suggested by the community (yes, including you!)
βœ… Maintenance costs to ensure Inkycal is reliable and bug-free
βœ… Giveaways of Inkycal on special occasions
βœ… Β Developing zero-code builds which can be used directly
βœ… Creating custom hardware to make Inkycal even more compact and even more power-efficient
βœ… Providing a dedicated sever webpage to configure Inkycal
βœ… Creating tutorials on how to create your own modules
βœ… Providing support via the Inkycal Discord server

πŸ’‘ Fun facts about Inkycal:

  • πŸ“… Inkycal came to life out of necessity to help me plan my day by having all the info I need in front of me without having to look it up, be it weather, news, appointments from my google calendar
  • πŸ”Œ Power-efficiency was always a priority, less power means less heat, less heat means a lower carbon-footprint and less costs of running Inkycal 24/7. As a result, Inkycal can run well even on a Raspberry Pi Zero!
  • πŸ–ΌοΈ Inkycal was originally only supported by the 7.5" three-colour display, but now it supports many more models, colours and even grayscale e-paper displays
@aceisace

With this amount of funding: * the basic maintenance of Inkycal can be ensured * server costs can be covered including the web-ui * development of new features can be continued

πŸ₯‡ Get a plug-n-play OS image of Raspberry Pi OS Lite pre-installed with the latest version of Inkycal!

βœ… No installation required, no fighting with lengthy installation processes, no copying complex commands and no issues with weak wifi signals!

⏳ This can save you hours of work, headaches and is particularly useful for those who want to get started quickly or don't have too much experience with linux/bash/python/pip or are stuck on the installation.

Please note, the provided image does not have a web-ui as the developers are working on this right now, but this shouldn't be an issue as you only need to copy your settings.json file to the Raspberry Pi to see something on your display.
