<accordion-header>What counts as a station photo?</accordion-header>
<accordion-body>

Your baton must be in the photo. It must be possible to tell that the photo was taken from within 100m of the station platform as the crow flies. You don't need to take the photo on the platform or even from within the fare zone! Use the station art or signage.
Zoom into the map to see our recommended exchange landmarks.

<accordion-header>Brief #2 - 9/26/24</accordion-header>
<accordion-body>

Hi LRR24 Captains,
Hope you and team are set for Saturday. Weather is looking nice and mild.

Team/Solo entry closed yesterday. With additions/withdrawals, we now total 12 teams and 2 solo runners, with about 120 participants total.

I hope you’ll get the chance to see other teams on the way, but it’s a big course!

Come to Angle Lake early if you want to guarantee meeting people. Several caravanning teams will be there en masse.

Please have your team members (including you) fill out the waiver. You should have a link to a view of who has completed it.

Teams that requested schedules:

I’ve put a “suggested schedule” in another tab of your sheet. It’s what you get if you try to respect all the preferences given, which often isn’t exactly what you want! Just a reference point.

These schedules also include a small exchange time buffer and climbing-based pace adjustment. Nailing exchanges saves time (easier said than done).

Travel

Those taking the 1 Line to the start, I recommend catching this scheduled trip (#2018):
Link to trip

There are several major road disruptions this weekend which may impact travel from outside Seattle proper.
Link to WSDOT advisory

Misc

Rob of team Velociraptors put together a quick turn-by-turn PDF which he has kindly shared in case it’s useful for other teams:
Turn-by-turn PDF

Be like Rob; make sure your team has a navigation solution that works for them. If you’re running with your phone, you can always use the route map on the site. Location information shared with the map is only used to draw your dot on the map and does not leave your device.

Copies of these emails (sans my contact information) will be posted on the site. Any last minute updates will go out to you via email only.

See you soon,
Nick

<accordion-header>Brief #1 - 9/21/24</accordion-header>
<accordion-body>

Hello LRR24 Captains,
I hope you’re looking forward to next weekend. Here’s your brief.

We expect 10 teams and 3 solo runners, with about 80 participants total. The median finish time estimate is 7 hours.
Team/solo entry will close Tuesday night (9-24), and the runner sign up form will close Thursday night (9-26). Let your friends know they only have a few days to decide 😉
Weather (as of 9-21): dry, starting in 50s, ending in 60s F

Before

Please have your runners sign up! There’s a waiver so they understand what they’re getting into, and it allows me to confirm team sizes for results.

We’ll send recommended schedules to teams that asked for them Thursday morning.

The route on the website was updated with minor street and exchange tweaks. No further changes expected. Grab a fresh GPX and update any materials you made for your team.

Tell runners to review the route and notes.

It’s an open, unmarked course, and it is possible to get lost

The route is detailed down to the level of sidewalks and crossings

When in doubt, stick to the route. It avoids construction and pedestrian-hostile areas.

Warnings ⚠️:

Leg 3: Runner must be prepared. Difficult to navigate, long, and hilly. Uses multiple narrow overpass bridges and has a couple sidewalk-less segments.

Leg 11/12, Pioneer Square exchange: The street can be rough, so this is the only exchange where we recommend meeting inside the station.

Leg 21: NE 188th St is a big hill with no sidewalks, and the turn+crossing on 15th Ave NE is unprotected. Use caution.

Leg 13 (Pike Place): Routed for sights. It’s also the halfway mark this year. Convenient spot if you want the team together for one photo.

During

The start is at 08:30 from the Angle Lake station platform, right under the hanging “Cloud” sculpture (photo attached). I will be on the platform from 8:00 to distribute batons and answer questions. It’s usually chilly.

Remember to take station photos (even when runners aren’t exchanging at a station!)

The map has live and scheduled train data:

Zoom in to see which trip number you’re on. Useful if you’re sharing an ETA or riding together!

Zoom into stations to see the arrivals board.

It’s unlikely, but:

Major medical incidents: contact emergency services, then contact me (phone number withheld).

Missing runners: contact me (phone number withheld).

Solo runners:

See the notes on recommended pitstops under “How do we manage our team’s logistics?” in the FAQ. TLDR: plenty of shops along the way; libraries are the safest bathroom bet.

Fun:

There’s a street party in the U District: U District Chowdown

Olive Garden is a half mile from the end of the line in Lynnwood 🥖

After

Here’s the upload link for photos (23 zipped): Photo upload link

These are for timing, we don’t share them. Results will be posted Sunday evening or sooner.

See you in a week,
Nick
