Cucumber is a tool that has so many interpretations and is abstract enough that it allows for easy abuse. As developers we always strive to use the right tool for the right job. So we went looking for something that would allow us to perform analysis on our cukes. Our ideal solution was a ruby interpretation of Sonar, from the java space, and the closest we got were the flog and flay gems. However those gems are for ruby code rather than cukes.
And so it begins, an epic tale of our gem. Well, maybe not that epic.
The first implementation of this project was the exclusive removal of unused step definitions. It was effective, but ugly and limited in its scope. After the inclusion of the other bearded man-children ("Contributors") we were able to refocus our direction to the general analysis of cukes with a sprinkling of cleanup utilities.
