I just tried this on Python 3.10.14 and it works fine. Maybe it is an unintended bug in 3.11.3. Personally, I would be hesitant on rolling back security changes.

Maybe I am being paranoid, but this was the original reason it was introduced https://vorakl.com/articles/tar-curdir/
