This repository contains the static webpage hosted by github pages at tempsdelarevolution.github.io. This project shows the current time in Paris contrasted with the theoretical time it would be if the French Revolutionary Calendar had been adopted along with the metric system during the French Revolution. This page uses vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS and was a project associated with a summer class I took at NYU Paris in 2023, called Protest Movements in France.
A brief historical background: the metric system was adopted by France during the French Revolution and quickly became a very popular, useful, and efficient standard for measurement. As part of this new system, the 24 hour day was changed to a 10 hour day (decimal time), and the calendar to 10-month years, each with 36 days. This complex new system was not as popular as its metric counterpart, and was a very shortlived endeavor. Read the full essay to learn more.
