Install

gem install chef-irc-snitch

Usage

Get your OAuth2 token from GitHub

Grab this repo and follow the instructions to get your own OAuth2 token (under CLI Testing): https://github.com/jwilger/github-v3-api

Configure Chef to Use The Handler

Append the following to your Chef client configs (‘/etc/chef/client.rb’)

# Notify admins via IRC when a Chef run fails
require 'chef-irc-snitch'

irc_uri = "irc://nick:[email protected]:6667/#admins"
# This is the token you got above ^^
github_token = "asKkwqofovX3shBmtMf8EWhDzSr7ouUb"
enable_ssl = true
# The irc channel password is optional, you can leave it empty if you do not have a channel password
irc_channel_password = "some password"

irc_handler = IRCSnitch.new(irc_uri, github_token, enable_ssl)
exception_handlers << irc_handler
