Getting V8 to the PowerPC and PowerPC 64
PowerPC-based machines are still around. Several people still have a PowerBook pal at home, next to a brand new iMac. Some of us enjoy Linux on Playstation 3, which host processors derived from the PowerPC family. And several device makers are still using PowerPCs (oh, surprise in this summer 2011 to discover a brand new network device acquired by my company, running Yellow Dog)!
All those devices get short in running bleeding-edge browsers like Safari or Firefox. If V8 was available, we would not be too far to get the light and fast Google Chrome. If V8 was available, several of these machine could become cheap servers with an OK performance for Node.js.
Sounds like good reasons to spend some time on a port. Add to that the interest of some people to play again with an old pal, drill more on the internal of a microprocessor, and the challenge.
