Description

Installs Codership's MySQL Galera Cluster (http://www.codership.com/) or MariaDB Galera Cluster (https://mariadb.com/kb/en/galera/).

Galera Cluster provides synchronous multi-master replication for MySQL (replication plugin).

  • No master failover scripting (automatic failover and recovery)
  • No slave lag
  • Read and write to any node
  • Write scalabilty
  • WAN Clustering

This cookbook enables you to install a Galera cluster from scratch. At minimum you would probaly only need to change a few attributes like

  • ['mysql']['vendor'] = "mariadb"
  • ['mysql']['root_password'] = "password"
  • ['mysql']['tunable']['buffer_pool_size'] = "256M"

Usage

On MySQL Galera Nodes,

	include_recipe "galera:server"

Example cc_galera role:

	name "cc_galera"
	description "MySQL Galera Node"
	run_list "recipe[galera::server]"

  • galera_nodes These are the IP addresses where you have MySQL Galera nodes running and a random host in this list will be used as the cluster URL for a galera node if the galera recipe is "reloaded".
  • sst_method State Snapshot Transfer method, 'mysqldump', 'rsync', 'rsync_wan' or 'xtrabackup' (if installed).

Change History

TODO:

  • Allow the installation of MySQL OR MariaDB

  • Reconfigure the deployment to search for nodes to add to the cluster (removing the need to manually specify galera nodes)

  • Off load the installation and repo management to other cookbooks if possible (https://github.com/opscode-cookbooks/mysql and https://github.com/joerocklin/chef-mariadb)

  • v0.4 - Vagrant host only fix, attribute names match opscode mysql recipe, update to MySQL version 5.5.29-23.7.3 and Galera 2.4.2

  • v0.3 - Add init_node which specifies the intital donor node.

  • v0.2 - Use wsrep_urls with mysqld_safe

  • v0.1 - Initial recipe based upon MySQL Galera 5.5.23
