Spring 2019 version
Content from the Spring 2019 edition of ATM 623 at UAlbany. New content this semester included:
- Comparisons of transient vs. equilibrium warming in the CESM
- Discussion of land-ocean warming contrasts in the CESM simulation, and simple theories to account for it
- More use of new features in climlab
- Deeper integration with other tools in the ecosystem:
- xarray
- metpy
- cartopy
The notes have been renumbered, cleaned up, and re-rendered with the latest climlab 0.7.5.
I also include updated instructions (see README) for setting up a comprehensive custom conda environment in which to run all the notebooks.
Spring 2017 version
This release contains major updates implemented during the Spring 2017 semester, including:
- Use xarray package for working with gridded datasets and model output
- Use the new
RRTMG
radiation model available in climlab v0.5 and up. - Entirely new lecture on Radiative-Convective Equilibrium
- New material on the radiative effects of clouds
- Generate and display animations interactively with
matplotlib.animation
(usesffmpeg
under the hood) - Format all lecture notes for slide presentations with RISE
Plus many more small enhancements and corrections.
Content from 2015 version with code updates
This version contains the complete content of ATM 623 from Spring 2015, with updates for changes in the climlab
API. It is probably the last revision of the 2015 content.
