Media no longer plays back in the Google Chrome Browser. In Avalon 5 and 6 an error message is displayed stating that Flash is required to play items, even if you have Flash installed. In Avalon 4 the player loads but shows only zeroes for the duration.
First noticed on 23 May 2017 with Google Chrome 58.0.3029.110, although this may apply to previous versions of Google Chrome. Confirmed to apply to Avalon 4, 5, and 6.
Note that while the video post loads, the duration in the scrubber bar shows a length of 00:00.
- Open Google Chrome and enter
chrome://settings/content
into the address bar. - Scroll to the Flash section of the window that appears.
- Ensure that the radio button for Block sites from running Flash is not selected. By default the recommended Ask first... radio button should be selected.
- Click on the manage Manage Exceptions button
- Enter the base path of your Avalon server into the text box. This is the web address you enter to get to Avalon's home page and is probably in the form of
something.yourinstitution.edu
. - Click on the Done button
- Reload the Chrome tab containing the Avalon media object you wish to stream, it should now play.
