Know the Hawkers

Presented by Team Memory Leak: Irvin Ting, Jordan Tan, Koh Swee Sen, Teo Kai Jie

We are a group of third year undergraduate students in computer science from Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Problem Statement

In a post-pandemic new normal, trends in purchasing products and services through online means are likely to continue increasing due to the pandemic. The purchase of services online include shopping on eCommerce platforms and ordering food on food delivery platforms. A report has suggested that food delivery business in Southeast Asia have grown tremendously from 2019 to 2020 due to the numerous food deliveries fulfiled during the pandemic, and this increase is likely to continue post-pandemic.

Businesses that do not have an online presence to offer the products and services are likely to have their businesses severely affected due to the recent shift in trends, and this includes our very own hawkers in Singapore's hawker centres that are not on food delivery platforms like GrabFood. Hence, we would like to help these hawkers by promoting their stalls in an accessible and friendly way.

Our Solution: Know the Hawkers

image

Know the Hawkers is a mobile application designed for users to find out about hawker stalls in Singapore that are not digitally savvy. These hawker stalls do not have online presence on food delivery or digital payments platforms, and may be severely impacted in their business as more customers use the online services to purchase their food. Hence, the mobile app is developed to allow users to identify these hawkers in Singapore's hawker centres.

App Features

1. Login/Sign up Page

image

As this is a user centric platform, it requires a user account to use the app. Hence, we start off with user log in or sign up.

2. Locate Nearby Hawkers

image

Based on user's device GPS, the app locates the nearby hawker centres and its hawker stalls to the user's location.

3. View Hawker Stall Description

image

User can find out more information about the featured hawker stall such as the unit number and the stall's background.

4. Scan QR Code to Play Games and Earn Rewards

image image image

With the physical QR codes pasted on the featured stalls, users can scan the QR code and take part in games, where doing well in these games can earn some rewards. Some of these games include quizzes about the stall and the heritage of the cuisine. Earn rewards when the games have been completed, with rewards such as shopping vouchers!

5. Contribute a Hawker Stall

image

Users can contribute to this platform to include more digitally disadvantaged hawkers who not featured. They are required to provide some information of the hawker stall through this form.

6. User Profile

image

User can always check their profile and view their rewards.
