You Were Slain allows you to edit multiple elements of the death screen. While originally supposed to just be a Terraria-styled death screen, it quickly turned into a full on death screen customization mod.
Quick Showcase
A quick showcase of the default settings. Almost everything related to the death screen you see can be edited.

In this section, you can see more showcases about specific features of You Were Slain.
You Were Slain includes a built in, Terraria-styled respawn delay. You can adjust lots of elements of the respawn delay, including the amount of delay(in seconds), the message that tells you how much time you have left until respawn, and the color of that message!

You can make text fade in upon death, which allows for extra intensity whenever you die. It can also really help dramatic-ify the death screen(especially on hardcore!).

You can automatically hide the HUD upon death, then unhide it upon respawning. If your HUD is already hidden upon death, it will not be automatically unhidden.
HUD Hiding
There are two showcases in this one video. On the first death, the HUD is not hidden. However, it becomes hidden automatically, then unhides itself. On the second death, the HUD is already hidden. It continues to stay hidden, even after respawning.hudHiding.mp4
You can have your death coordinates appear on the death screen, and be shown to you in your chatbox! Your death coordinates that appears in chat only shows up to you, and nobody else can see it.

You can edit the colors of most text that appears on the death screen. The most notable exception is the actual score from the "Score" line.(e.g. the "30" in this line, "Score: 30" wouldn't be able to have its color changed).
Colors

You can adjust the top and bottom colors for the death gradient. It is very janky, to say the least. Pretty sure this is due to how Minecraft handles the gradient rendering. If you can find a use for it, then great! Otherwise, you can disable the custom gradient and revert back to the default gradient.

There are multiple use cases for the emergency respawn button. Maybe you are playing factions, and forgot to turn off the respawn delay, and you need to respawn quickly to help your teammates(is factions still a thing?). Or maybe you just died in the middle of an intense boss fight, and need to respawn quicker to get back to your items. Or maybe you are just too lazy for the respawn delay. Either way, it is a very helpful option to have enabled incase you need it.
To activate it, you must hold shift consecutively for 1.5 seconds. If you let go of shift during that time, the timer resets.

You can see the timer reset during the first time. This is because I let go of shift.emergencyRespawn.mp4

Let's say you have disabled the respawn button, title screen button, AND respawn delay. Oh no! You're stuck on the death screen forever... right? Not really. There is a built in functionality to ensure you don't get softlocked on the death screen. A message appears towards the bottom of the screen letting you know that a softlock was prevented. Warning logs also get printed in your console. You can disable this message in the "Extras" config category.
