Interview on WP5 progress

On Dec. 22, Carsten was interviewed by colleagues from WP7 (Sustainability). The questions submitted before the interview. The following notes reflect Carsten’s preparation for the interview.

What outputs of your WP are expected to last after PaNOSC?

  • Simulation frameworks
    • Oasys
    • McStasScript
    • Simex
  • libpyvinyl (harmonized simulation API for simulation code and data)
  • Domain extensions for openpmd: wavefront data, raytracing data, molecular dynamics

What are the necessary resources, per partner and per year, to maintain such outputs?

  • I would estimate that 1 FTE per RI per year would be largely sufficient, 1/2 FTE would be minimal

Does the sustainability of these outputs depend also on ExPaNDS facilities?

  • Not critically but the outputs’ sustainability would benefit from adoption of these resources at other RI’s beyond panosc but also not limited to expands.

Are there other external factors that may condition the sustainability of your WP outputs? (for example, do you rely on software/hardware developed by other communities?)

  • each of the aforementioned simulation frameworks is developed in collaboration networks. We rely on
    • the python programming language
    • jupyter
    • hdf file format
    • openpmd metadata standard
    • open source community in general
    • public data and software repositories
