For anyone with an iOS device, you can use Siri Shortcuts to change the spools:

Create an application API Key in Octoprint
Create a new Shortcut
Add "load content from URL"
Set the URL to e.g. http://octopi.local/plugin/SpoolManager/selectSpoolByQRCode/1
Under Header, add an entry with
- Key: X-Api-Key
- Text: YOURAPIKEY
