What I know:

1. I have coded the first version of serialize / deserialize.
2. Iulian has done an refactor for the code and applied some requested changes.
3. You didn't agree with the use of an flag to update the filter.
4. From what I understand from Iulian's comment the alternative is to set an array of values in paper-autocomplete-chips.
5. I don't understand the reason( the needed behavior of chips related to deserialize ) and how (where in code ) to do that.
6. I have closed the PR because as much as I get the feature needs to be implemented in another component.

@nomego paper-autocomplete-chips should handles something similar to selectedValues in iron-selector that we can pass it only the selected ids and it will figure out what the values will be when it gets them.
