You are about to encounter yet another bewildering batch of TLAs: Three Letter Acronyms.
We call the type of system we are creating NRP, which standards for Network Resource Planning. If you have heard of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and SCM (Supply Chain Management), NRP is sort of a combination of both.
The underlying model is called REA, which stands for Resources, Event, and Agents. This model was developed in 19 by Professor Bill McCarthy of Michigan State University. Here's his large collection of REA papers.

The API uses the Value Flows vocabulary, which is also based on REA.
