How to Use

Main Menu

From the main menu, there will be four buttons: Microphone Test, Practice Recordings, Settings and Rewards. These buttons take you to its respective screen.

Microphone Test

Here, you will find a bar that shows you the level of sound input into your recording device. Press Back to Main Menu to return to the Main Menu.

Settings

You can change the volume by adjusting the slider, or change the theme. There is also a quick user guide, accessed by pressing How to Use.

Press Back to return to the Main Menu.

Rewards

You can view your progress on the number of recordings you made. At certain milestones, you will unlock extra themes to use (access the themes in Settings).

Practice Recordings

Choose Your Recordings

This screen shows two lists: one of the available names from the database, and one of the names you have chosen. You are able to move names between the lists by selecting items in the lists and pressing >> or <<.

You can search for a name by typing in the search box.

You may also add a combined name, such as Catherine Watson, by pressing Add Custom Name. This will combine separate recordings into one so you can practice full names. Type the combined name into the text box that pops up (it is case insensitive).

You can also import a pre-prepared list of names you wish to practice by adding a text file: press Import a text file. Each line in the next file will be treated as a name.

When you are happy with your list of names, press Start Practicing. You will be asked if you want to randomise the order of the list.

Play Recordings

You will be shown your playlist. Press Next Name and Previous Name to navigate the playlist. You can Play the recording from the database (if there are multiple recordings in the database, it will prefer those not marked as bad quality).

If the recording is of a bad quality, you can press Toggle Quality to mark it as bad quality. If you change your mind, you can Toggle Quality again to unmark it as bad quality.

You may also view the Past Recordings of the selected name or Record your own attempts; these bring you to new screens (detailed below).

When you are finished practicing this playlist (including listening to any personal recordings), you can return to the Main Menu by pressing Back to Main Menu.

Record Your Own Attempts

When you are ready, press Record to start recording. When you are finished, press the button again.

You can listen to the latest recording you made by pressing Play Your Recording, listen it to the recording in the database with Play Example, and play both recordings one after the other using Compare.

If you are happy with the recording, you can Save it. If not, you can press Record again to record a new version, or go Back without saving.

When you are finished, you can return to your playlist.

View Past Recordings

You can switch between two different lists using View Database and View User: your previous recordings, or all the recordings in the database for this name. By default, the list will show your previous recordings.

You can select any item in the list and Play Selected to play that recording, and listen to the recording from the database by pressing Play from Database. To compare the selected user recording with the active recording from the database, press Compare.

When you are finished, you can press Back to return to your playlist.
