How to use GitHub Discussions

• Participate in community conversations. Discuss big picture ideas, brainstorm, and develop plans for analyses before implementing them.
• Receive news and announcements. Project maintainers will post announcements that the community should know about.
• Propose a new analysis or a modification to an existing analysis. Before filing an issue, create a post to explain why you are proposing a new analysis or a modification to an analysis. Include an overview of your planned methods. Project maintainers will further discuss your idea with you.
• Ask for help. Post questions you have or errors you may be encountering. Project maintainers and community members can help you find a solution.
  • Note: We recommend searching the discussion forum using the search bar before posting. Your question may have already been answered!
• Provide feedback. We may occasionally share polls to ask the community for feedback.

Categories

Discussions are organized by section and category. Please read the description of each category to make sure you are posting in the correct place.

• 📣Announcements - Only project maintainers will create posts here. We will share news and announcements with the community.
• 🏗️Modify an existing analysis - Propose an update or modification to an analysis that already exists. Discuss your plans and goals with project maintainers
• 💡Propose a new analysis - Share your idea for a new analysis here. Discuss your plans and goals with project maintainers.
• ❓Q&A - Ask non-urgent questions that project maintainers and the community can help with. (Ex. Where to find information)
• ⚠️Troubleshooting - Request help from project maintainers and community members. (Ex. Getting set up, trouble running an analysis)
• 🗳️Polls - Only project maintainers should create polls. We will ask for feedback here.

Communicating

We encourage you to interact with us and other community members!

• To start a post, Click on the green New Discussion button on the upper right side of the page.
• Click the Get Started button next to the category that best fits the content of your post.
• Add a title and write your post, keeping in mind that any member of the OpenScPCA community can read it and respond to you.
  • The Modify an existing analysis, Propose a new analysis, and Troubleshooting categories have built in templates to guide you.
• Click the green Start Discussion button to publish your post.
