The bot could look for certain phrases and respond to them in a Look Around You way, as in the following YouTube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jtU9BbReQk

Examples:

<human> thanks, ants
<@bot> thants

<human> bless you, ants
<@bot> blants

This could be extended to any "thanks XXXYYY" snowclone.
