how to modify a plugin?

I have an xyz probe with a hole where the corner of the work piece. If I do XYZ probe with a small mill it goes in the hole and misses the probe block. How can I make it move to the centre of the block then start the probe operation? There is a discussion "writing plugins #1657" but the link given as the answer gets a 404
