High memory usage (~300mb)

Not sure if this is a bug or expected but I would think 300mb of usage would be quite a lot for a non-scaled native display. Maybe efforts to lower the usage in simple situations would be worthwhile.

Hi @jacksongoode - yes, this seems to be on the high side. Can you share a bit more detail on

• What features are you using and how many displays do you have?
• The platform (Intel/Apple Silicon, max memory size, etc)?
• Is this a constant phenomenon or happens during/after display configuration?
• Do you see memory pressure on your Mac in Activity Monitor (if you click the Memory tab)?
• I'd also need the 'Memory' and 'Real Memory', 'Real Private Memory' and 'Real Shared Memory' values from Activity Monitor (you can turn on Real Memory as a column).

The OS behaves differently if there is memory pressure and when there is none - if there is no memory pressure as it might not purge things that are not needed. What really matters is the Real Private Memory as that is the memory the app actually uses for itself, the shared memory part is also used by other processes so even though it might be counted as memory usage, it would be used anyway even if the app was not running.

Since this is a general issue, I'll move it to discussions (we can continue there) and if there is an actual issue / memory leak discovered, I'll create a specific issue about it. Thank you!

• 1 display - the native display
• M1 Pro, 16GB, 12.6.2
• Irregular, not sure when it occurs, but it occurred without connecting to another display during its runtime
• I'll need to find a way to reproduce for the memory stats
