Hi there - if there is a problematic dummy or something that makes the app or the system crash, you can try holding SHIFT during startup which will start the app in safe mode. This way you can discard the dummy and start setting things up again. If this does not help, you can follow this to reset all settings and install the app again: |

Many thanks, no you were clear, done that, many crashes later.
I have uninstalled.
It simply will not let me set the resolution to over 1920 now, I did it
once!
Better I leave it and save up for another monitor.

Sorry for not being clear. I mean hold the SHIFT button on your keyboard

Upon startup you'll see a notification about safe mode if you succeeded in
doing so.
Once the app starts, you can discard a dummy here (this helps only if it
it is a dummy that is misbehaving in your case):

Hi, it appeared to work for a while! But it said the resolution was higher than 2560.
No idea what EDID is.
U3011 comes up as 1920x1200 by default.
I am presuming as you say the M1 just cannot communicate or read the data from the monitor, very, very unfortunate, its a great monitor!
Thanks for your help, your app looks great, I guess Apple really isn’t that interested in making non Apple products compatible, which is also, very unfortunate.

All right. I think the 2011 Ultrasharp even tough capable of displaying 2560x1600 unofficially via HDMI, does not have that entry in its EDID. Did it come up by default on your Intel mac or was a custom timing added (for example by using SwitchResX or some similar app?). M1 sadly does not support EDID overrides so it is not possible to add custom timings as of now.

Hi
Just. downloaded on my new M1 Mac Mini. Thank you for providing a free application by the way.
I have a 2011 Dell U3011 Ultrasharp 2560x1600 monitor which only displays at 1900x1200 max on the M1, my mid 2010 Mac Pro 5.1 workstations runs the native resolution just fine.
I am connecting over a short 30cm brand new HDMI cable.
Your software gave me the option of running in 16:10 aspect at an even higher resolution, I clicked this and changed my mirrored display and it appeared to work, however I wanted to change it to 2560x1600.
I know it might not be the correct method but to let you know of a bug, I clicked on "custom aspect ratio" and input 16:10, then the mac crashed, screen frozen, menus reduced transparency.
So, I did a hard restart by pressing the power button, uninstalled your app, then reinstalled it, as soon as I click to open it crashes again.
Just FYI, now I cannot use it, which is super frustrating as it appears to have work before it broke!
Thank you for your free work and time and it's not as frustrating as "upgrading" from a 2010 mac to a 2023 mac that no longer works properly with the same keyboard and monitor.
I get the feeling that the M1 machines might be amazing but that Apple has on purpose made using anything other than their own incredibly overpriced and relatively poor quality peripherals extremely difficult.
I think it would be much more honest to say, look, the Mac Mini is no longer the amazing value that it would appear because compared to our previous stand alone macs you really have to buy our own keyboards, mice and monitors to use everything easily.
Then at least before purchasing people could add up the true cost of such a system and might conclude it is in fact poor value compared to an all in one.
The 2020 M1 mac mini on paper looks like the best value product that Apple has ever produced, maybe with the exception of the mid 2010 Mac Pro 5.1. It is a real shame they have purposefully downgraded it's compatibility and that even if this was unavoidable, that they did not care to mention this at point of sale so potential customers could make informed purchasing decisions.
At this point the mac mini is not fit for purpose and missold according to UK and EU law for not pointing out compatibility issues.
