Why is redis-server service required here?

I could install and start the redmine app without the need for redis. Am I missing something?

Sorry for the delay. You are right. Thanks for the hint. I removed the requirement from the init.d script in develop branch. I am working on backing all our modules with rspec and beaker tests in a vagrant box.
The current HEAD of develop has certain regressions. I hope to release a new working version next week.
