https://github.com/motla/ftdi-d2xx is a fully Node.js built driver for D2XX devices.

To be clear, if we go this route, I think I'd want to put the logic right in the RHC codebase, and retire this library entirely.

That would be beneficial for the future as well, but as just something to task track this would just be something to make as of note and retire the repo in its entirety.

Obviously in the future, but for now we are setting this is on the backburner before we work on implementing this into the RHC codebase.
