Common configuration issue with Pathogen

This is very much a user-side issue, but I have found several github 'dotfiles' repositories with an error in their Pathogen configuration. They have a file named pathogen.vim that contains html instead of VimL.

I found at least three users who had this configuration issue in their public dotfiles repos on github. If we assume that only a fraction of pathogen users publish their dotfiles publicly, many more users might have this configuration issue.

Unfortunate, but I'm not sure what to do about it. How do these users not notice their config is broken?
