So I have to think that for a new comer, ValueHolder is not what it's to be expected.
And as it was previously discussed in the mailing list, ValueHolder is not really reflecting the behavior of the class which is to trigger an event each time the value it contains is changed.
The Groovy one has exactly the same behavior. The others also seem to be more or less consistent with Bobby Woolf in 1994 in http://c2.com/ppr/vmodels.html Java of course has an issue with overcoming static typing problems.
Issue to discuss point of view about renaming
