SOFA very slow / not responding after build

Hi all,

I tried building SOFA v23.06 from source following this tutorial: https://www.sofa-framework.org/community/doc/getting-started/build/linux/ on Ubuntu 22.04.
After this, I tried running runSofa (the caduceus example) and clicked "Animate". The window kinda froze, and the animation proceeded very very slowly, like 5 seconds per frame. After a while the window showed the not responding error.

I've seen this error a few times before, which I was able to solve by rebuild SOFA or even reset the virtual machine. However, I would like to know the reason for this error and the most efficient way to solve it.

Thanks for your reply! It is indeed possible that this issue is related to my VM configuration. However, I've seen this issue on different platforms, including Ubuntu v20.04 VMs and computers that run on Ubuntu natively. Also, resetting VMs or rebuilding SOFA do not always solve the problem. Any insight into this?

It could be due to some 3D acceleration missing (or not well implemented) from the VM point of view (either the host hypervisor does not handle well the GPU or there are some drivers problem by the guest)
You can already check if this is the case by trying to launch some examples in batch mode (i.e pure console-like execution) by doing in the terminal : ./runSofa -g batch -n 1000 for computing 1000 steps of your given simulation.
And see if there is still the same problem.

I would have suggest that also. Moreover, check that you compile in Release mode.

Hi all, it appeared to me that this time the problem was with my remote desktop application, which I have overlooked in the past. I tried running sofa on the computer itself and it worked well. Thank you all for your help!
