Remediation & Dispute Resolution Need Work. There is little documentation as to what is supposed to happen if/when a voter notices something wrong.

Let’s say I’m a voter, and I notice my ballot isn’t in this system. What do I do, realistically? How does the ceremony of the end of the election actually prevent anything, or allow for remediation?

Entry Summary for HACK SIV @ DEF CON 2024

Thanks again for participating! This submission earned $158.73 from SIV and $47.27 from the Public Vote, for a total of $206.00.

Here's what we noted in our evaluation:

What's interesting about this submission

  • Very important aspect to have clear.
  • Good questions for scaling up to big municipal elections

What takes away from it

  • Unclear what the docs are missing?
  • Hasn't been an issue in the elections we've run to date. The few times votes needed to be remediated, they contacted election admin & explained why. Admin invalidated (transparently for all to see), and re-issued new credentials when necessary. It was all very straightforward.

Issue to track getting paid: siv-org/hack.siv.org#11
