Behavior of checked attribute is inconsistent

With "Check all visible attributes when checking an entity" selected.
Behavior:
Sometimes when selecting an entity the attributes of the entity are checked and sometimes not.

Somewhat vague description... Possible to see a pattern there, or at least a reproducible example?
