The need to configure a wss or bosh connection is unfortunately necessary for most xmpp servers as XEP-0156 support isn't wide spread yet.

One way to make it a bit easier would be to show the placeholder example when typing like this:

Not sure if that will work with the limited browser and Bootstrap that is currently employed, but it is worth a try.

In general if these settings were moved to a settings modal or such, there would also be more space to show a better explanation.
