One way that more people would be able to take advantage of this is if when the latency compensator kicks in we drop to a lower (or lowest) quality of video available so we have a better chance at reaching our target latency. Because the video is lower quality, it will download faster, and we'll be able to catch up easier.

This could be a a configuration bool when creating the instance of a compensator.

This would be seen as a way to reach lower latency over higher quality. Those that only offer one video quality representation for the player, however, wouldn't be able to benefit.
