The current UI started with the ideas laid out in #28, but has since migrated to the same visual effect, but using separate face for main and suffix.
But that's causing the problem noted in #67. I do think I fixed this in #84, and in any case, it won't show up in most cases.
#83 experiments with ditching this distinction entirely, and going back to a single template, and moving the affixation prefix to an annotation (by definition suffix), which is supported on Emacs 27.
This is a fork-in-the-road decision I'd like to settle before declaring v1.0. The two template + affixation approach certainly gives us more flexibility going forward, and probably a better UI, but with some cost.
Thoughts?
If nobody offers strong arguments to change, I'll keep status quo and close #83.
