Notebook unopenable because of JSON parsing (holoviews?)

I got an error trying to open a python notebook:

based on stack overflow, it seems like this sort of thing crops up occasionally. In my case, it doesn't seem to be a git merge introducing ">>>>>" or "=====" to mess up the json parsing. My gut says that it's something to do with holoview saving a bunch of intermediate info. 1) any suggestions for getting my file back? 2) Does anyone know how to prevent holoviews from causing this issue (if it is the cause)?
