Concrete protocols missing

Any idea how to represent concrete protocols in the architecture? I would envision a certain protocol implementation to be a module that sits on top of the Digital Objects layer and uses the available format implementations to create (issuance) and read (presentation) objects.

There was some discussion on the call.

We don't have a good picture of this yet.

My gut says we would need some kind of "protocol manager" pattern.
