Development Roadmap

This is a very general layout of what we are planning to do. For sure things will change and may not occur in the order shown if at all.

Short term

  • Opening up of XyGrib to all Grib providers without filtering the source of the gribs. This is the opposite of zyGrib. As long as there is one single valid Grib record in the file that XyGrib can handle - it will be used.
  • Interfacing from the XyGrib client to a new "on the fly" Grib server providing all Grib version 2 files for three global models GFS, ICON & Arpege. Three wave models included are NCEP-WW3 (dropping FNMOC), DWD-GWAM & DWD-EWAM (Med & Europe).

Longer term

  • Adding several wide-area regional models to the new grib server. NAM, Arpege 0.1° and ICON-EU for sure and perhaps more.
  • Second (and perhaps third) Grib slot to enable loading more than one grib file and to support comparisons.
  • Facility to interactively overlay "weather fax" type charts and sat images
  • Add more altitude features such as showing convergence/divergence, vorticity and Q-Vectors.

Even longer term

  • Create free and open versions for Android and Ios
