How to create compact menu having only icons and open subemenu on hover ?

I want to create compact vertical menu having only icons and show submenus on hover. How can I do this with metismenu and idea ?

I think this issue is about something like this:

it really would be great to have such options out of the box for this single component.
I still cannot extract it from Chaldene Admin Template
