The way to input the date is less common for users. Usually ways are year/month/day or day/month/year, and it's less common to use monthdayyear with no seperator between at all.
Moreover, it may result in mis-input. For example, if user want to input November 12th 2012, then either 11122012, 12112012 will be legal input, but only 11122012 is what the user specify. The app can easily accept it without reminding and the format is easy to mistype.
We get to decide how we want our users to specify the date, so it is important to follow the design guide/user guide when inputting information.
