Brief description of what was accomplished with this project

A draft of this implementation has been sitting for a long while in nipype (nipy/nipype#2953).

At the end of the workshop we identified this issue and @Shotgunosine pulled the threads to get us some data and examples where we can test the implementation. Should be finalized in the upcoming days.
