i just finished this little book about labyrinths, which used them as a conceptual lodestone for thinking about everything from prisons to the origin of cities to cybernetics to personal spirituality. Also it was translated by Sadie Plant ??? It's been a good brain bath for thinking through the following.
We talked briefly a couple weeks ago about what computing with bodies could look like, and whatever seed was planted has been growing in my head. Walking to get a sandwich this afternoon, I was reflecting on art objects/experiences as sites of computation (and after looking at that link @edouerd shared a few months ago maybe the term to use here would be hyperstition), and what working from that stance might look like.
examples of 'art' that expand under this kind of thinking:
I think it involves building models and interfaces (using these terms more expansively) that encourage multiplicitous outcomes, sites for agency to be enacted, not controlled. Said another way, models/interfaces that produce predictable results are bad lol.
OK, that makes sense thinking about the object/experience/art-result, but what about process? I think working collectively with this stance is a way forward, letting our networked agencies play off each other and eventually becoming encapsulated in a discreet Art Thing. Team work makes the literal dream work and cuz a solo author is non-networked/impossible
very much thinking through this slowly
more to come 🎈
