There are more reports like this one that could be moved from Bugzilla here. Bug 1802526, bug 1802534, bug 1833564, and bug 1864653 returned by a simple "cookie banners" search query in Bugzilla are just a few examples that might be worth moving.

From January 16, 2024, all publishers serving (Google) ads to users in the EEA and the UK must use a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP).

Thousands of sites with Google ads will break over the next few days, spread the word.

Is this related to this specific issue, if so how? Thanks!

Yes I am 100% sure guardian uses google ads, needs to abide to their CMP and is in the UK and also serves readers in the EEA.

Edit:

I am certainly annoyed by Google right now and I feel this change is mostly to break rules. But that is just my tinfoil hat.

Thanks! This might also be a positive outcome for our handling mechanism. If more sites migrate from custom solutions to fewer CMP providers they will be easier to handle with fewer rules required. Might be too early to say for sure though.
