I have the same problem. Sometimes, when I start my computer and then go into my account, the network and the volume icons are shown twice:

Captura de pantalla -2020-12-28 19-32-48

Captura de pantalla -2021-02-02 20-28-47

I'm using MATE 1.24.0 form Linux Mint 20.1.
I can't reproduce the problem when I want. It appears randomly. The only way to solution it is going out my account and going in again.
Is there a log file to see what's happening? I can't found anything about it in syslog file.
Thanks!

That happens with me from time to time as well, completely random.
It solves by logging out and login again.

Now I'm using MATE 1.26 with Linux Mint 21.2 and It happens to me almost every time I log into my account. I use Mate Tweak to change to HIDPI mode and again to Auto mode. This reload the MATE interface

This can also occur with the SNI support in mate-panel's built-in tray applet, so whatever code is causing this is common to both.
