Image from media not attaching to post

Unless I upload an image from the media library popup in the post itself and click insert this image into post, the image is not linked to that post. This means that if I upload an mage to media first, and then go on a post and select that image, although the image looks attached from WP, the link is not made in the database (if you get all attachments of the post it is not there).
