Hello everyone, thank you for your project and your time !

Is your feature suggestion related to a problem? Please describe.
I always have something like 10 different apps openned and several of those may have 2 or 3 windows. I use AltTab with no preview and sometimes it's hard to find the app I want to go in, when Icons looks similar (maybe like Safari, Finder, Outlook...)

Describe the solution you'd like
Maybe it would be nice if there was the name of the app above the name of the window.

Describe alternatives you've considered
I maxed out the icons size but I guess i'd rather have the name of the App written somewhere

Bonjour~

Someone asked something similar recently: #1564. They wanted the app name instead of the window title.

I guess we can introduce a preference here like:

App name: * Don't show (default)
          * Show instead of window title
          * Show over window title
          * Show under window title

I'm not sure how to handle the size of the app name text though. You made it bold and bigger than the window title, but that's your preference. Other people may want the opposite. Also today there is only a slider to increase the window title size. What would happen if it's increased? Both scale up/down? I don't want to add another slider; it's already way too crowded in the preferences. Not sure how to handle this nicely.

Any idea?

Hi 👋🏼
Sorry for the delay, I don't have any alerts for my GitHub notifications 😅

I guess you're right, those are my personal preferences.

Your way of solving that issue is quite interesting, but as you said it could be difficult to handle the size of the text.
Maybe you could add two select inputs, "Main label" and "Secondary label". One could choose what he want as the main label and the secondary label. Either the main or the secondary label could be blank, and the main label would be just a bit larger than the sub label (maybe there could also be a checkbox to set it bold).

Thanks for the answer !

À bientôt,

As a side-note, I added tooltips on many UI elements, including the app icons, in a recent release. While I still want to implement this ticket one day, please note that you can mouse hover the app icon to get a tooltip with the app name, in the meanwhile.

Hi -- just want to second that having App names would be useful to me too. For me, I'd want them instead of Window names, as that's my mental model for where I need to go to do whatever task I need to do next. Oh, that's in Chrome. Oh, that's in Asana. Thanks!

@VincentTrotot How do you achieve that all app icons show the name? I'm using the latest version and I see only the title of the icon currently selected. I was about to open a feature request, but from your screenshot it looks like this is already possible? @lwouis FYI

I've got the interface in French, and I don't remember activated something,but the setting seams to be under Preferences, Appearance (3rd tab), Personnalize miniature style.

I'm on version 7.3.0

Thx, but I've tried every setting for App Icons and the title would not show. I'm also on 7.3.0.
